DAY 26 - FAIR HAVEN, NY TO PULASKI, NY

Mileage: 46.7 - Total Mileage: 1,327.7
Margarita Count - 35
Plus 1 Fireball shot!

We were up and about on a normal schedule this morning. We rolled out of camp at 8:30am in a nice, cool morning. The first part was all downhill from the campground - the payoff from the tough climb yesterday afternoon. As a description of the climb into camp yesterday, I  was going so slow that a butterfly passed me and left me in the dust. Talk about a humbling experience!

Apparently there are a lot of frogs crossing the road to the marsh in the campground, so this sign was necessary.

I knew today would be all up and down, so I had mentally prepared myself for a slower day and to just enjoy the scenery. We had a second breakfast in Fulton at about 18 miles in. They had amazing cinnamon french toast on homemade cinnamon bread. Yum! While at breakfast Rhonda found a bike shop in Oswego that could look at her shifter and see if they could fix it. He thought it was possibly the cable and could be a quick fix. The only problem was we weren't going through Oswego, but it wasn't too far out of the way. I didn't want any extra miles, so we decided to split for the day and meet up at the hotel in Pulaski this afternoon. The good news is they replaced the cable and her shifter is working well again. Just in time for the climbing to start!

Upstate New York is very pretty. All of the small towns we are going through could be a small town in most anywhere in the US. In between the small towns would be just a scattering of houses and the occasional church. And lots of quiet, empty roads to ride.

Even though I spent a lot of time going up today, the miles clicked off quickly. Before I knew it, I was only about 10 miles from Pulaski (Poe-la-sky). I crossed the Salmon River in Port Ontario. For those familiar with Idaho, the Salmon River in Idaho is known as the "River of no Return" because boats could go down the river but couldn't go back up because of the numerous rapids and fast water. This version in New York seems much calmer - at least at this point.

We wound up at the Mill House Market next door to the motel for dinner. They had great fresh sandwiches and wood-fired pizza. It was all really good. The bonus was they had beer for Jon, who enjoyed two double IPAs, and the best fresh margaritas I have had this whole trip!

After eating and drinking our fill, it was back to the motel for an early night. Tomorrow will be another day of climbing in the Adirondacks. Hopefully I ate enough to fill my legs up for tomorrow!
