Today did not get off to a very quick start. We were up and packed fairly quickly since we were at Troy's house. Troy and Jon walked to a local coffee place for a morning espresso, we talked with JT and Cheryl (other couple there last night). Jon and Troy weren't gone 10 minutes when the lightening and thunder started - followed very quickly by heavy rain. This didn't look good! They came back soaked since they didn't take an umbrella. We waited for a lull in the rain (it didn't stop) and left Troy's for a cafe about 1 1/2 miles from the house. We had a nice breakfast and watched the radar to see if we were going to get very far today.
The rain finally passed through about 11am and we got ourselves ready to finally get moving. The roads were wet but at least the rain wasn't falling. All our rain covers were soaked and we just hoped most of the stuff in our bags was dry. Our route out of Cleveland took us through downtown and out around the Browns stadium and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Obligatory tourist photos were taken.
Once we left Cleveland it was still metro area for the rest of the morning and early afternoon. We had a bike path for about 10 miles, which was really nice. After that it was busier roads until we got through Painesville, OH. Rhonda and Jon both had tire issues and so we had a prolonged break in Painesville while they were repaired. Jon had a large cut in his tire, which he put a boot on, and then they put tubes in both tires since they need new tape for the tubeless wheels.
Once we left Painesville we were back on quieter country roads. However, we still had about 30 miles to get to camp because of our late start and prolonged stop. It was getting warm, as well, so we tried to get some miles in before stopping for a late lunch/early dinner in Perry, OH. We stopped at the Perry Village Market and Cafe for some great sandwiches. The owner even threw in a shot of Fireball when I bought drinks and snacks for camp!
From there, we had about 15 miles to the campground. It was late enough it was cooling off a little, which was a nice break. We finally pulled into camp about 6pm after a long day. I enjoyed a few minutes sitting in my camp chair before I finally set up camp and took a shower. I was in bed early and slept really well! Being tired will do that!
Here are couple pictures of Lake Erie from today.
